Crankshaft
Let’s talk about the Crankshaft. If you use a used Crankshaft you should have it checked to make sure it is not Cracked, Bent or Sprung out of shape. You need to have a Machine shop check this and at the same time have them check to see if there is any wear on the bearing surfaces. Most Used Crankshafts will need to be turned (milled) to accept an oversize bearing. You should also have the oil holes chamfered, this is opening the ends of the oil passages up on the bearing surfaces so that oil can be distributed better to the bearings at high RPMs. If you plan on storing a Crankshaft, always store it on end and never lay it on it’s side, except in a Motor Block.
