Timing Gears

Camshaft Timing is very critical to get the most out of your Motor. This is the Timing between the Camshaft and the Crankshaft. It has to be perfect to get the optimum Performance. This is achieved Via the Timing Gears and or Chain. (Some newer Motors use a Timing Belt) Always go by what the Camshaft manufacturer recommends. Timing can be adjusted with the use of Indexed Crankshaft Timing Gears. They are marked right on the Gear 2,4,6,8,10 Degree markings before and after TDC (Top Dead Center) In General: Advancing the Camshaft will give you more low end power and retarding the Camshaft will give you more top end Power. NOTE: Anytime you change the Camshaft Timing you should check to make sure you have at least .050 Piston to Valve Clearance.
